Putting the Social Back in Social Media

putting the social back in social mediaLast week, Emily of Colorado Moms wrote about how she took back her Twitter stream, and we have to say, it’s nothing short of brilliant. Have you ever heard someone say, “I joined Twitter so that I could click on all the links that people share?” We didn’t think so.

Don’t get us wrong, we know the value of sharing content on Twitter and other social media sites but we’ve also felt our eyes glaze over as we scroll through a stream filled with link after link after link. (Which is why all of our social media projects include an encouragement to spread out the link love and not spam followers.)

Emily’s key Twitter tip is:

TALK TO PEOPLE. No really. If you want people to talk to you, you have to talk to them. It’s like “Being Social 101″ and applies outside of social media. Like in real life too. Try it!

So what you’re saying Emily, is we need to actually be social on social media? Who knew? All joking aside, we’re inspired by Emily’s Twitter revolution and will be working toward making some improvements to our own Twitter experience over the coming months. It’s exciting really, like getting ready for a party! Can’t wait to see who shows up and what happens next.
