Featured O2O Member: Jillian Wade

Featured-O2O-Member-JillianWadeThis week we get to hear from Jillian of Food, Folks, and Fun! A former teacher, Jillian is a stay-at-home mom of two married to a military man—which means the family moves often. For Jillian, it’s always an adventure, one best approached with an arsenal of great recipes and a passion for cooking her way into a new community. There’s nothing she loves more than cooking for her family, cooking for friends, cooking for every occasion. Food is love, and cooking isn’t just putting a meal on a plate: It’s putting a little part of her into that meal.

Favorite O2O Projects you’ve worked on:

Any of the National Pork Board’s projects. I love when a brand gives me free rein to make whatever recipe I want with their product.

Favorite part of being an O2O Member:

I love the open, responsive communication with the campaign leaders. Plus O2O is headquartered in my home state of Connecticut, gotta love that!

Tell us how you came to be a blogger.

Before becoming a stay-at-home mom I was a teacher for 7 years. While I love staying at home with my kids, I missed having something of my own. I started Food, Folks and Fun in October of 2010 as a creative outlet, and I knew NOTHING about blogging. After attending a few blogging conferences, and getting serious about blogging, things just snowballed from there.

I always enjoyed cooking. Whenever I would visit my family, they knew they were in for some seriously good food. Food, Folks and Fun was the motto my family adopted while I was growing up. My parents hosted friends and family year round at our house. And food and fun times were always a given. When it came time to pick a name for my blog, it was a no-brainer!

Name another blogger you admire and why.

Jen from Carlsbad Cravings. Her food and photography are stunning, and she is one of the sweetest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet!

Is there a piece of advice, quote, or mantra that you live by?

I heard this once at a blogging conference: “If it’s not a heck yes, then it’s a heck no”. I think this is SO important to remember anytime you need to make a decision about your blog. You want to make sure you’re taking opportunities, sponsored posts, etc that you’re not only excited about but will help you further your brand message.

Some advice: Get a good life planner. Blogging can take over your life and a good planner will work wonders with helping you focus and balance life and business goals. I love my Tools 4 Wisdom planner, you can get it on Amazon.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

I can’t pick just one, but I love it when people try out my recipes and leave messages for me on my blog or Facebook page. It totally makes my day! 🙂

What was your last best meal?

On New Year’s Day my dad, niece, daughter and I made great, great grandma’s Polish Pierogies recipe. We had 3 generations in the kitchen making these for the family. The recipe was incredible and I think it tasted even better because so much love and history went into the recipe. 🙂

What is the best thing to do where you live?

Go to the beach! We love living in Southern California. We’re just 6 little miles from the beach and we love going there to walk, bike rides, dips in the ocean, and for bonfires with friends and family. Anytime we have visitors from out of town we do a beach bonfire at sunset complete with hot dogs and s’mores.

Night owl or early bird?

Night owl, no question about it!

What is your favorite time of the year?

Fall. I grew up in New England and nowhere beats fall quite like New England!

Three things you can’t live without (besides family/friends/faith).

  • My planner – it keeps me sane!
  • Guacamole
  • My KitchenAid mixer
