Client Spotlight: ACH Baking

ach become a better bakerWith the holidays behind us but backyard BBQ weather still many, many weeks away we’re kind of itching for a fun way to get together with friends and beat these winter blahs. Wouldn’t it be absolutely delightful to do a progressive dinner featuring comfort foods? Drawing inspiration from our ACH Become a Better Baker Blogger Ambassadors, here’s how we see this playing out.

House #1 Appetizers

Don’t you love it when restaurants bring out bread before a meal? That’s definitely comfort food! Start your progressive dinner with baskets filled with two or three different kinds of rolls and bread slices served warm. Cloverleaf Dinner RollsSpiced Sweet Potato Rolls, and Cheesy Potato Bread would make a scrumptious combination.

Include plenty of butter for spreading, seasoned olive oil for dipping, or even some cheeses and deli meats such as thinly shaved prosciutto and roast beef to sandwich between rolls and slices.

House #2 Main Course

There are so many directions you can go with this! Here are two of our favorites:

ach cornbreadThanksgiving Redux

No need to go all out and do the whole shebang, a simple turkey breast roasted in a slow cooker and side of Southern Cornbread Dressing will bring back all the goodness of everyone’s favorite food holiday. If you have trouble finding turkey, substitute chicken, either whole roasted or baked chicken breast. Another option is ham which is easily prepared in a slow cooker. A tossed salad with dried cranberries would round out the meal.

And we don’t mean calling out for delivery! Make Homemade Pizza Dough and set out a variety of toppings. Depending on how many people you have attending, it can be a make-your-own party or work in groups of 2-3 to make original creations for everyone to share.

Bake and serve and don’t forget to leave room for….

House #3 Dessert

As the saying goes, “The more the merrier!” and that definitely applies to desserts. Having a variety of choices makes it fun to try a little of this and a smidge of that.

The ultimate in comfort foods is chocolate so we recommend Chocolate Decadence with Raspberry Sauce. Just be prepared to be very popular after you serve it! If you went the Thanksgiving route with dinner, Pecan Pie would add that last touch of nostalgia to the evening. Speaking of nostalgia, unwrapping a piece of candy to pop into your mouth and savor can take you back to a simpler time. Have Homemade Creamy Caramels in bowls or scattered on your table for guests to enjoy at their leisure (and maybe even pocket a few before they head out into the cold night).
